Our rulers are scared of us

The Observer reports that the British authorities are seriously considering sealing off an area around the Houses of Parliament. Anyone who has been to the area knows that Parliament lies right next to a major road bridge (Westminster Bridge), two major road junctions and the river Thames. How big an area do these people want to seal off?

I can’t help noticing how scared these men are, and how disproportionate these measures are compared to what Britain has suffered from “Islamic” terrorists. May I remind you all that we have had two brushes with this kind of activity since about 1980: the siege at the Iranian embassy, and the Lockerbie bombing – and that wasn’t aimed at us anyway; it would have been a job done if the plane had landed in a field or the ocean. And why have they left it this late anyway? It has been nearly three years ago since the Sept 11 attacks, and nothing has actually happened on British soil.

For all their desire to protect themselves from whoever, they are remarkably unwilling to protect their own citizens. In this month’s Spectator, Rod Liddle reports that Britain has implemented a one-sided extradition agreement with the USA, allowing British citizens to be extradited almost on the say-so of the US authorities, even if they have never set foot in the USA – but it doesn’t work the other way round. Blair and the gang also send British forces into American wars, without bothering to explain what is in it for Britain. (See this article on how the Blair government has undermined British national sovereignty.) They want to put us in the firing line, while they build up the walls around themselves. When are we going to wake up and get rid of
this self-serving cabal?
